What is LinkedIN?

LinkedIn is a professional social media website and application designed for networking and job seekers. Knowing how to use LinkedIn is essential for developing your brand voice and identity and can increase your exposure to other users.

So, how can you achieve that?

Here’s my advice:

  1. Stay Active: Treat LinkedIn as one of your everyday social media sites and engage with your followers regularly. Grow your network by following/connecting (yes do both) with industry professionals, peers, and mentors who are second degree connections.

    • Comment: Comment on your connections' posts; this will increases engagement for their post as well as your profile. If you have premium you can see who is viewing you, just an FYI.

    • Post: Post at least once a week, at minimum. Share updates with your connections regarding your job status, recent projects/volunteering, honors/awards, or share advice.

    • Groups: Do your research on the best groups for your business, request to join, and make sure they are active. Then, send requests to group members after engaging on their content.

  1. Branding: Having a cohesive profile will make your profile stand out to potential employers and pique their interest in you.

    • Photo: Use a professional headshot, and avoid selfies, group photos, or distracting backgrounds. Visuals matter, as this may be the first thing they see.

    • Banner: Customize your banner to reflect your personal branding and aesthetic by creating one in Canva. On the other hand, you can also use a high-quality photo of your products or services.

    • Headline: Your headline shouldn’t be too short or long, but it should state your mission and ideal client avatar.

    • About/Bio: Use paragraphs to space your bio. Start with who you are, your experience, and always have a call to action, such as “Let's connect!”

Final Thoughts:

LinkedIn is a powerful networking tool that can transform your brand by increasing engagement, outreach, and building trust. So, remember to stay active and create a brand for yourself!
