Meeting a creative storyteller and visual artist who uses social media for professional growth
Ailynn Jones

Developing as a creative storyteller has shaped how I use social media as a strategic tool to build engagement, communicate narratives, and learn from fellow artists. I'm actively on social media, building a creative brand and connecting with a professional audience.

The Type of Creative Storyteller I Am

I'm Ailynn Jones, a senior at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in Visual Arts with a concentration in Computer Art and Animation, along with a minor in Creative Writing.

I'm not just an animation enthusiast. I'm a:

  • Ambitious storyteller with ideas that are constantly evolving

  • Explorer of many art mediums and career paths

  • Creator who listens to and acts on feedback

  • Relentless digital artist driven to improve

Because of this, I consider myself to be an "all-rounder" type of creator. I observe and pursue opportunities that align with my creative interests and long-term goals.

Ambitions of an "All-Rounder" Storyteller

As my final year of college wraps up, entering a competitive industry without much experience has motivated me to study different creative career paths. These include:

  • Graphic Design

  • Marketing

  • Photography

  • Programming

Why?

Each of these fields offers its own way of portraying a story and helping me expand my creativity. I've developed such a strong curiosity for all these paths because I believe there's potential that can help make my dream of starting an animation studio come true.

A Great Platform I Use

While some platforms are more casual than others, it's important to stay professional and authentic.

My favorite platform for this type of professional engagement is LinkedIn, because it:

  1. Makes connecting with recruiters and industry professionals easier

  2. Provides a space to showcase my portfolio

  3. Offers access to advice and mentorship opportunities

  4. Helps build long-term professional relationships

I'm grateful to have found an internship that allows me the opportunity to expand my creativity while learning the business side of artistry. Finding jobs nearby and seeing works of artists has been made easy as well. This is all because of LinkedIn!

Supporting a Creator

There are plenty of ways to support artists that don't involve money. For me, engagement on my LinkedIn is enough support that can go a long way. Other platforms I'm on are Facebook and Instagram; however, these are mainly centered around life updates with occasional insights on my art progress.

I also have a personal website! This site is used as a portfolio to showcase the mediums I specialize in.

Connecting any way, shape, or form is useful for anyone running a brand. Engagement helps push content towards more eyes, so support your local creators.
